A JOURNEY AROUND EUROPE

Looking forward the summer? We are planning a trip around Europe, in groups of three / four students. Dreaming is free, so we are designing our ideal tour. By car, by plane, by boat ? How long would you choose to stay? What would you like to see and do?

Maybe you have already gone on a very special trip, would you like to tell us about it?

The best projects will be published after Easter.

WRITING

WITNESS STATEMENT

It was about eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday 15th October. I was travelling on the underground, we were on the Piccadilly line just before King’s Cross station. It wasn’t very busy, so I sat down. I was listening to music when I saw the man. He looked a bit suspicious.
The man stood up and walked towards the doors. Then a woman started shouting “My purse! My purse!” While everyone was looking for the purse, the doors opened and the man ran away. It all happened really quickly.
He was quite tall, about 1.85 metres, and he had very  short, fair hair. He was wearing jeans and a blue jacket, and he was carrying a newspaper. I think he was about 25 years old.

Sample answers to chapter 10 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

1 He wanted to separate the two parts of the mind – the dark, evil part and the good, light part.
2 He changed into a different man.
3 Edward Hyde was Jekyll’s evil part. He was the man Jekyll changed into when he drank the drug.
4 Student’s own answer. The student might suggest that Jekyll felt very unhappy and frightened.
5 He took poison. He did this because he could not control Edward Hyde. He killed
himself and he also killed Hyde. So Hyde could not do any more evil things.

Sample answers to chapter 9 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

1 (a) One was from Dr Jekyll. The other was from Dr Lanyon.
(b) Dr Lanyon’s.

2 Jekyll asked Lanyon to go to his house. He asked him to find a glass jar filled with white powder. It was in his laboratory, in a drawer marked ‘E’. Jekyll
asked Lanyon to take the jar home with him. He said a messenger would come for it at midnight.

3 A small man whose clothes were too big for him. The student should recognize
Hyde from this description. He might therefore name him in this answer.

4 He put some of the powder and a little water into glass. He said, ‘You would not believe me, Lanyon. Now, look,’ And he drank the liquid.

5 The man gave a loud cry and he began to change. Slowly the man’s face changed and
his body became larger. He changed into Henry Jekyll.

Sample answers to chapter 8 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

1 He said that Dr Jekyll had locked himself in his laboratory.
He would not speak or open the door.
2 A chemical. He wanted the same chemical that he had bought the year
before.
3 A small man with white bandages round his head.
4 Because the man in the laboratory had been shouting for
Poole. His voice was not Dr Jekyll’s voice.
5 The body of a small man. It was Edward Hyde. In his hand was a bottle. The
label on the bottle said ‘Poison’.
6 An envelope with his name on it. The handwriting was Dr Jekyll’s.
